If you don't believe me than at least believe Joseph Campbell that the role of the artist in this society is far greater than making pretty or un-pretty wall decorations. The artist is the barometer of society, at least a real one, who predicts the future and uncovers the authenticity beneath hidden layers of myth , falsehoods, and political-correctness.
Shakespeare said,
"We are such stuff
As dreams are made on, and our little life
Is rounded with a sleep. ."
All that we think is real and important, our cities, robots, institutions will one day disappear, as so shall we. But we behave as if we will live forever and keep pursuing our material world avidly. Artists remind us that our life is but a dream, an illusion, to be lived well and in harmony with all existence.
